Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment

The Bee & The Palm is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to make our platform welcoming, usable, and inclusive.

Our audience spans generations, and we recognize that many of our most valued community members are seniors, caregivers, and individuals who may rely on assistive technologies. We have designed this site with readability, clarity, and ease of navigation as core priorities.

Conformance Standards

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.

What We Are Doing

To ensure accessibility, we have taken the following measures:

  • Senior-friendly typography: We use larger font sizes (minimum 16px body text), high-contrast color combinations, and generous line spacing throughout the site.
  • Color contrast: Our color palette (rich navy, forest green, warm cream, and gold) has been selected to meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios for text readability.
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard, with visible focus indicators for users who navigate without a mouse.
  • Semantic HTML: We use proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and ARIA attributes to support screen readers and assistive technologies.
  • Responsive design: Our site adapts to various screen sizes, from desktop monitors to tablets and smartphones, ensuring usability across devices.
  • Clear navigation: Consistent navigation structure with breadcrumbs, descriptive link text, and logical page flow help all users find what they need.
  • Form accessibility: All form fields include visible labels, error messages are clearly communicated, and required fields are marked appropriately.
  • Alternative text: Images include descriptive alternative text for screen reader users.
  • Reduced motion: We respect the "prefers-reduced-motion" system setting and minimize animations for users who are sensitive to motion.

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, some areas of the site may not yet be fully accessible. We are aware of the following limitations and are actively working to resolve them:

  • Some PDF documents (such as workbook interiors) may not be fully compatible with all screen readers. We are working on accessible alternatives.
  • Third-party content (such as embedded podcast players or payment processors) may have their own accessibility limitations outside our direct control.
  • Some older blog content may not yet have complete alternative text for all images.

Compatible Assistive Technologies

This site is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS, TalkBack)
  • Screen magnification software
  • Speech recognition software
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Browser zoom up to 200%
